About

157 Outfitters operates in the North Platte River valley in Southeast Wyoming. During the migration the river valley holds hundreds of thousands of ducks and geese. The warm water sloughs of the North Platte hold birds for the entirety of the season as they roost on the river and feed in corn and hay fields during the day. We run hunts from the end of November until the close of the season. Hunts will primarily be tailored for geese however ducks will be targeted if the correct conditions are present. Hunts will usually take place in heated underground pits placed in fields that accommodate up to 5 hunters at a time. Early season we sometimes will chase feeds with layout blinds and lay in decoys. We also offer opportunities to hunt the North Platte River itself during the first half of December. We believe in quality over quantity. We run limited groups of hunters on quality fields to make sure that pressure is kept to a minimum. We are also the only outfit that provides everything you need for a successful hunt. No need to worry about booking hotels, checking guns or finding ammo before your trip. At the end of the day all the birds are taken whole, processed, vacuum packed and returned to you so that you can enjoy the hunt and not worry about the headache of trying to stay legal cleaning federal migratory birds. Our spreads are the biggest spreads in the area, oftentimes running over 1,000 decoys.

What should I bring?

If you would like to bring guns and ammo we recommend bringing whatever gauge you are comfortable shooting with acceptable loads for both ducks and geese. We prefer using #1 shot as an all around load. Steel, bismuth or tungsten is required. Please pattern and verify shells work properly out of your gun before arrival. Since guns and ammo can be provided the major necessity is clothes that can handle the cold. While our blinds are heated temperatures outside will likely range from 10-40 degrees. Warm gloves and boots that can handle snow/mud are a good thing to have.

How should I get there?

Denver International airport is a 3 hour drive from the lodges with ample ability to get rental vehicles. For less driving Scottsbluff airport is located 40 minutes away and also has rental cars. We always welcome clients to drive from the place of residence in their own cars as well.

What will an average day look like?

The day before the hunt the outfitter will meet with you to fill out bird cleaning paperwork and give you directions for the next mornings hunt. Wake up will be early and your guide will have you meet either at the lodges or a central location. You will follow the guide to the field that will be hunted and decoys will be placed around the blind location. As birds begin to leave their roosts early in the morning your guide will call in birds and try to put them into the spread for close shots. Shooting is usually hot and heavy from 8:30 to 11 am. If afternoon hunting is available on that given day we will lunch and then hunt until we reach the end of the day. After that clients will return to the lodges and prepare for the next days hunt.

How far are the lodges from civilization?

While the lodges themselves are secluded on the banks of the North Platte River, the town of Torrington, Wyoming is only a 10 minute drive and includes numerous restaurants, bars, and grocery stores.

*All hunts include guiding and bird cleaning. Packages with exclusive lodging are available as well as gun rental with unlimited ammo.

Duck season is open until January 23rd while Goose is open until February 15th
