Waterfowl Hunts with 157 Outfitters

Location: North Platte River Valley, Southeast Wyoming

Season:

  • Duck Hunts: Late October – mid-January
  • Duck/Goose Combos: Mid-November – January
  • Goose Hunts: November – mid-February

Embark on an Unforgettable Waterfowl Hunting Experience

157 Outfitters delivers a true Western waterfowl experience in the heart of the North Platte River Valley—one of the most dynamic and bird-rich migration corridors in the country. Each season, hundreds of thousands of ducks and geese funnel through this region, with warm-water sloughs and the North Platte River itself holding birds consistently from opening day through the end of the season.

This operation is built around a quality-over-quantity philosophy, limiting hunting pressure and focusing on premium fields and setups to give every group the best possible opportunity. Whether you're chasing early-season ducks or late-season honkers, every hunt is tailored to current conditions and bird movement.

Expect to hunt over massive decoy spreads—often exceeding 1,000 decoys—with experienced guides who know how to finish birds consistently.

Hunting Style & Setups

Duck hunts are typically conducted from well-positioned blinds along the North Platte River and surrounding water systems, where birds naturally roost and travel.

Goose hunts primarily take place in heated underground pit blinds located in productive corn and hay fields, accommodating up to five hunters per setup. Depending on conditions, early-season hunts may also include layout blind hunts over active feeds or field hunting directly along the river.

Every detail—from scouting to setup—is dialed in daily to stay on fresh birds and maximize shooting opportunities.

What to Expect Each Day

Your experience begins the evening before your hunt with a quick meeting to review logistics, complete bird processing paperwork, and go over the plan for the next morning.

Hunt days start early, with guides coordinating meeting locations at the lodge or a central point before heading to the field. Once set up, birds begin moving off roost shortly after sunrise, with the most consistent action typically occurring between 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM.

On days when conditions allow, afternoon hunts may be added following a midday break. Evenings are spent back at the lodge preparing for the next day.

Travel & Location

  • Denver International Airport – approximately 3 hours away
  • Scottsbluff Regional Airport – approximately 40 minutes away
  • Rental vehicles available at both locations

Guests are also welcome to drive directly to the lodge. Despite its secluded riverfront setting, the lodge is just 10 minutes from Torrington, Wyoming, offering convenient access to restaurants, bars, and supplies.

What to Bring

While firearms and ammunition can be provided, hunters are welcome to bring their own. We recommend using a gauge and load you are comfortable with—#1 shot is a reliable all-around option for both ducks and geese. All ammunition must be non-toxic (steel, bismuth, or tungsten).

Late-season conditions can be harsh, so come prepared with:

  • Insulated, weatherproof clothing
  • Warm gloves and headwear
  • Waterproof boots suitable for snow and mud

Blinds are heated, but outside temperatures typically range from 10°F to 40°F.

We are a licensed Wyoming Outfitter offering hunts for Waterfowl, Antelope, Whitetail, Mule Deer, Elk and Turkeys.

For waterfowl we believe in quality over quantity. We run limited groups of hunters on quality fields to make sure that pressure is kept to a minimum. We are also the only outfit that provides everything you need for a successful hunt. No need to worry about booking hotels, checking guns or finding ammo before your trip. At the end of the day all the birds are taken whole, processed, vacuum packed and returned to you so that you can enjoy the hunt and not worry about the headache of trying to stay legal cleaning federal migratory birds. We also run the biggest spreads in the area, oftentimes running over 1,000 decoys. 157 Outfitters operates in the North Platte River valley in Southeast Wyoming. During the migration the river valley holds hundreds of thousands of ducks and geese. The warm water sloughs of the North Platte hold birds for the entirety of the season as they roost on the river and feed in corn and hay fields during the day. We run hunts from the first of December until the close of the season. Hunts will primarily be tailored for geese however ducks will be targeted if the correct conditions are present. Hunts will usually take place in heated underground pits placed in fields that accommodate up to 5 hunters at a time. We also offer opportunities to hunt the North Platte River itself during the first half of December.
