Spring Black Bear Hunting with Proven Hounds
Spring black bear hunts with Peasley Hunts focus heavily on hound-assisted hunting, offering a high-participation, traditional predator experience during peak spring conditions in British Columbia. As bears emerge from winter dens and begin feeding aggressively, snowlines and soft ground create ideal tracking conditions for running bears with trained hounds.
While hound hunting is the primary method, spot-and-stalk opportunities may also be used when visibility, green-up, and bear behavior allow. Guides choose the most effective approach each day based on conditions, hunter ability, and ethical shot opportunities.
How the Hunt Works
- Each day is planned around current bear movement and track availability.
- Early mornings are spent scouting roads, trails, and travel corridors
- When a quality track is identified, hound dogs are released
- Dogs trail, pressure, and tree the bear
- Hunters and guides stay with the chase
- Once treed, guides position hunters for a safe, ethical shot
If conditions favor glassing, spot-and-stalk hunts may be incorporated to capitalize on visible bears feeding in spring terrain.
