Frequently Asked Questions
Who will be my primary contact?
Your main point of contact will be Russell Hill (hillrussell@gmail.com). We also have representatives in the U.S. who can provide additional information and answer questions along the way.
Do I need to use a travel agency?
You’re welcome to use any travel agency you prefer. We can also recommend an overnight stay near Johannesburg after your international flight. That same location will arrange your pickup and return for your domestic flight to East London, where you’ll meet your professional hunter and continue to the lodge.
Can I bring my own firearms?
Yes, you can bring your own rifles. If this is your first international hunting trip, many hunters find it easier to avoid traveling through airports with firearms. If you choose to bring your own, we’ll provide the required forms ahead of time and guide you through the process. If you prefer, our professional hunters also have quality rifles and ammunition available for rent at a very reasonable rate.
Can I add trophies to my package?
Absolutely. We encourage hunters to create a “dream list” of trophies before arrival so we can place you in the best areas to achieve your goals. You can either add species to an existing package or build a fully customized safari with us.
What should I pack?
Daily laundry service is included, so pack light. Bring comfortable walking or hiking shoes, at least three sets of clothes, and a light jacket or rain gear depending on the season. For cooler hunts, we suggest insulated pants and a fleece layer. Camo is not required unless bow hunting; neutral-colored clothing works best. For a detailed guide, please see our recommended Packing List.
Is tipping customary?
Yes. Tipping is a traditional and appreciated way to acknowledge the efforts of your professional hunters, trackers, and camp staff. While the amount is up to you, gratuities are generally based on the level of service and your satisfaction. Tips for support staff are pooled, while direct tips for your PH and tracker are encouraged.
Do I need a visa to travel to South Africa?
U.S. citizens traveling with a valid U.S. passport do not need a visa for visits of up to 90 days. Many other countries are also visa-exempt for stays up to 30 days. However, requirements can change—please confirm the latest details with your country’s travel advisory service before your trip.
