Gear List:
- We recommend bringing a good pair of binoculars so you can field-judge hogs for sex and size. The rule of thumb is a pair with higher power than your rifle scope, at a minimum of 10 power.
- A range finder is helpful, especially to predetermine distances before any boars come in and out while in the pastures.
- Bring a headlamp or flashlight.
- Emergency poncho packs are best for rain gear.
- We recommend snake boots or snake chaps, especially if you are planning on a spot-and-stalk hunt.
- An unscented soap to wash, necessary to keep your scent down.
- A pair of shooting sticks or a monopod is handy in almost any boar hunting situation. It will enable you to adjust your rifle whether on the ground or in a stand, both metal ladder and box style.
- Camouflage is especially important for a free-range hog hunt. Though hogs cannot see very well, they do notice movement, so something that blends into the surroundings will help considerably.
- Bring fishing equipment for midday fun if you choose. Great bass fishing!
- If you plan to stay out a little after dark, please bring a light for your gun, and we do allow thermal equipment. Feeders will have lights attached to aid in your harvest.
- Recommended minimum hog hunting calibers are your standard deer hunting rifle—.308, .270, .30-06, .350 Legend, and .243 all work very efficiently. As for AR-15 calibers, we find that the best success comes from .450 Bushmaster, .410, .458, and 6.5 Grendel. We will allow only the 5.56 in Barnes Vor-Tx. We do not allow full metal jacket ammunition or any .223. When hunting wild hogs, the bigger the bullet, the better the chance of success, especially if you run into a boar over 250 pounds.
