Experience an authentic Montana elk hunt with K Lazy 3 Outfitters in the legendary Scapegoat Wilderness. This 7-day guided horseback hunt combines early-season rifle hunting, bugling bulls, experienced guides, remote wilderness country, and a traditional Montana backcountry camp.

K Lazy 3 hunts Montana Hunting District 280, one of the unique areas offering the opportunity to pursue elk with a rifle during the September rut. Hunters can experience vocal bulls, spectacular mountain country, and a true horseback hunting adventure far from the roads.

The Hunt

Days begin before sunrise with a hearty breakfast before saddling up and riding into prime elk country with your guide. Depending on elk movement, weather, physical ability, and your preferred hunting style, hunts can range from pushing deep into the backcountry to targeting productive areas closer to camp.

Expect a combination of horseback travel, hiking, glassing, calling, and working through timber and mountain terrain in pursuit of mature bull elk, with opportunities for cow elk if desired.

September hunts provide the excitement of chasing rutting, bugling bulls, while later October hunts offer a different experience as elk patterns and mountain conditions begin to change.

Wilderness Camp

After a full day in the mountains, return to a traditional Montana wilderness camp.

Hunters stay in spacious 14' × 17' sleeping tents equipped with cots and foam pads, accommodating up to four hunters per tent. Camp also features a large 18' × 24' cook tent, where hunters and guides gather for meals and to plan the next day's hunt.

Hot showers are available at Meadow Creek Camp, while other camps utilize shower-bucket systems.

Meals

K Lazy 3 serves hearty, family-style meals designed to keep hunters fueled for long days in the mountains.

Dinners can include:

Breakfast is served before heading into the field, and sack lunches are provided each hunting day so you can remain in elk country throughout the day.
