The 402 Waterfowl Nebraska Late Season Goose Hunt takes place during one of the most exciting stretches of the Nebraska waterfowl season. As winter settles over the Platte River corridor, the area can hold significant concentrations of dark geese, creating opportunities to hunt birds moving between established roosts and surrounding feeding areas.

From cold January mornings and snow-covered fields to warmer days during the beginning of the reverse migration, every hunt can bring a completely different experience.

The Hunt

402 Waterfowl utilizes heated field pits, warm-water systems, agricultural ground, and proven hunting locations around the Platte River corridor.

Early in the hunt window, hunters may experience freezing temperatures, snow, and concentrations of big Canada geese. As January progresses into February and temperatures begin to change, the reverse migration can bring new groups of birds into the area.

During the latter portion of the season, hunters may also have opportunities at white-fronted geese, commonly known as specks, when the applicable season is open.

Guides monitor weather, feeding activity, roosting patterns, and daily bird movement to determine where each group will have its best opportunity.

Once in the blind, hunters can settle into a heated setup while the 402 Waterfowl crew handles the spread and works birds into range.

Breakfast is provided in the blind each hunting day.

What to Bring

Late-season Nebraska weather can be unpredictable. Hunters may experience freezing temperatures and snow or significantly warmer conditions within the same trip.

We recommend bringing:

• Required Nebraska hunting licenses, permits, and stamps
• 12- or 20-gauge shotgun
• Blind bag
• Warm base and insulating layers
• Waterproof and windproof jacket and/or bibs
• Knee boots or waders
• Warm gloves
• Camo stocking cap or ball cap
• Personal drinks and snacks

Travel

Traveling hunters can access the area through Eppley Airfield in Omaha (OMA) or Lincoln Airport (LNK).

For goose hunters who enjoy watching birds finish over a spread, late January and early February along the Platte River offer a chance to experience one of Nebraska's classic winter waterfowl hunts from the comfort of a heated setup.

Posession limit: 5 Geese & 6 Ducks- no more than 5 mallards. Possession 15 geese and 18 ducks.
