Experience Montana’s Late-Season Waterfowl

Broken Plains offers authentic Montana waterfowl hunting that is raw, rugged, and unforgettable. Hunt the Missouri River, surrounding reservoirs, and open fields from natural blinds, panel blinds, and A-frames. Early-season conditions often provide a mixed bag, but as winter sets in, the focus turns to mallards, goldeneye, and Canada geese.

With 13 miles of private Missouri River access and adjacent agricultural fields, our late-season hunting is unparalleled. When smaller waters freeze, birds concentrate on the open river, creating prime opportunities for an unforgettable Montana waterfowl experience.

• Mallards - abundant
• Canada Geese - abundant

Additional Opportunities (weather-dependent):

• Goldeneye
• Gadwall
• Wigeon
• Teal
• Pintail - occasional

Pacific Flyway Bag Limits

Ducks: 7 per day - can be 7 mallards per day

Geese: 5 per day

What to Expect

We hunt the Missouri River, small reservoirs, and dry ground.

We hunt from natural cover hides, panel blinds, A-frames.

Hunt times vary based on conditions, and late season hunts may start later in the morning due to bird flight patterns.

Afternoon hunts or upland hunts may be available if time and conditions allow.

Temperatures typically range from 0° to 50°, with below-freezing conditions common in late season.

Booking Considerations

We require a minimum of 3 hunters to book, and we allow a maximum of 6 hunters.

A minimum of 3 hunting days is required to book a waterfowl hunt, and add-on days are available if you want to extend your trip.

Booking Our Fully-Guided Waterfowl Package Includes

• 3 days of fully-guided waterfowl hunting - can swap 1 waterfowl hunting day for 1 upland hunting day if conditions allow
• 3 nights of lodging
• Trained hunting dog(s)
• Decoys
• Hides/blinds
• Yeti buckets - to sit on and store gear in
• Partially-provided meals
• The lodge is stocked with grab-and-go breakfast items and snacks, and if time allows, dinner will be cooked. There are several restaurants and a grocery store located within 1 mile of the lodge.

• Required State and Federal licensing
• Bird cleaning, packaging, and freezing for transport - available for a fee
• Taxidermy

Ethical Harvest Philosophy

At Broken Plains, we value the animal before and after the hunt. We encourage every hunter to have a plan for:

• Processing
• Hides and capes

If hunters cannot take their meat home, it will be processed at their expense and donated to those in need.

Our hunts center around respect, conservation, and full utilization of each animal harvested.
