Broken Plains offers memorable Montana upland bird hunting across vast prairie landscapes and rolling grasslands of Central Montana. Hunters pursue truly wild pheasants, Hungarian partridge, and sharp-tailed grouse while walking behind our experienced hunting dogs through upland country.

These birds are not stocked. They are native to this rugged prairie environment, making every flush and every shot part of a genuine wild bird hunt. With expansive hunting ground, Broken Plains delivers an upland experience defined by wide-open country, hard-flying birds, and the unforgettable memories made in the field.

What We Hunt

• Ring-necked Pheasants
• Hungarian Partridge
• Sharp-tailed Grouse

Bag Limits

Pheasants: 3 roosters per day

Hungarian Partridge: 8 per day

Sharp-tailed Grouse: 4 per day

What to Expect

We hunt prairie grasslands, river breaks, coulees, mountain foothills, and rolling prairie

Hunts are conducted with our experienced hunting dogs

Guest dogs may be allowed on a case-by-case basis

Walk-up style hunts focused on natural bird movement

Booking Considerations

We allow a maximum of 6 hunters.

Booking Our Fully-Guided Upland Package Includes

• 3 days of fully-guided upland hunting
• 3 nights of lodging
• Trained hunting dog(s)
• Partially-provided meals
• The lodge is stocked with grab-and-go breakfast items and snacks, and if time allows, dinner will be cooked. There are several restaurants and a grocery store located within 1 mile of the lodge.

• Bird cleaning, packaging, and freezing for transport - available for a fee
• Taxidermy

Upland Hunt Licensing Requirements

Please purchase these licenses HERE prior to your arrival:

• Montana Base Hunting License
• Montana Upland Game Bird License - 3 day option is available for non-residents
• Montana Conservation License
• Hunter’s Education Certification - unless born before 1/1/85

Ethical Harvest Philosophy

At Broken Plains, we value the animal before and after the hunt. We encourage every hunter to have a plan for:

• Meat transport
• Processing
• Hides and capes

If hunters cannot take their meat home, it will be processed at their expense and donated to those in need.

Our hunts center around respect, conservation, and full utilization of each animal harvested.
