About Montana Safaris
Montana Safaris is led by third-generation outfitter Colter Heckman and operates in and around the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex near Great Falls, Montana. Each trip is designed for guests who want an authentic, remote backcountry experience delivered with capable stock, proven logistics, and attentive, fully guided service.
From summer fly-fishing to fall elk and mule deer hunts, our all-inclusive horseback excursions take you deep into one of Montana’s premier wilderness areas. Base Camp
Sleeps 10For select backcountry hunts, guests will stay in Montana Safaris’ traditional base camps or remote tent camps located deep in prime hunting country. These camps offer an authentic Western experience while still providing the comforts needed for extended stays in the wilderness. Accommodations typically include spacious canvas wall tents with cots and wood stoves (weather permitting), hearty home-cooked meals prepared in camp, and communal dining areas where hunters can unwind and share stories after a full day in the field. Camps are strategically placed to maximize hunting time and minimize daily travel, allowing you to wake up already surrounded by Montana’s rugged beauty. This classic backcountry setup delivers a true wilderness atmosphere paired with Montana Safaris’ experienced guides, pack horses, and camp staff—creating an immersive hunt focused on comfort, camaraderie, and access to remote country.
