About this trip
Ohio Fair Chase Whitetail Hunt
Authentic Fair Chase Hunting for Wild Ohio Bucks.
For hunters looking to experience true Midwestern whitetail hunting, Walhonding Woods offers semi-guided fair chase, free-range whitetail hunts on nearby Ohio properties managed specifically for wild deer. This is a true fair chase experience where mature bucks roam naturally through hardwood timber, agricultural fields, creek bottoms, and natural travel corridors.
Unlike the preserve hunt, these hunts take place on carefully selected free range properties that provide the challenge and excitement of pursuing wild Ohio whitetails in their natural environment. Every hunt is guided by experienced local hunters who understand seasonal deer movement, rut activity, food sources, and weather patterns to maximize your opportunity at a mature buck.
Walhonding Woods currently offers access to two outstanding free-range properties:
Knox County Property
This 18-acre funnel property is designed around natural deer movement and features strategically placed tree stands, a spacious box blind, a maintained food plot, and feeder locations that consistently attract traveling bucks through one of the property's primary travel corridors.
Coshocton County Property
The 48-acre Coshocton County farm offers a more diverse hunting landscape with mature hardwood timber, creek bottoms, open agricultural fields, multiple tree stands, and feeder locations that provide excellent opportunities throughout the season.
Each morning, your guide develops a strategy based on current deer movement, weather conditions, food availability, and rut activity. Hunters spend the day overlooking funnels, bedding transitions, timber edges, creek crossings, and food sources where mature Ohio bucks naturally travel.
Hunters may pursue free-ranging whitetails using:
- Rifle
- Shotgun
- Muzzleloader
- Compound Bow
- Crossbow
After a successful harvest, guides assist with game recovery and provide complete field care, including field dressing, caping, quartering, and preparation for transport or taxidermy.
One feature that sets Walhonding Woods apart is the flexibility built into the experience. Free-range hunts are booked by the week and include lodging and meals. If deer activity or hunting conditions are not producing the opportunities you're looking for, you may transition into hunting inside the Walhonding Woods Trophy Preserve and receive full credit for the amount you've already paid toward a preserve hunt. This unique option allows hunters to begin with an authentic free-range experience while still having the opportunity to pursue one of the preserve's incredible trophy animals if desired.
After each day's hunt, relax inside the comfortable lodge, enjoy hearty home-cooked meals, and prepare for another exciting day in the Ohio woods.
