Sight Fishing Louisiana
Garrett Shackelford
Fishing as we think about it is just tying on a hook and casting a line in hopes of catching a fish. Here in Louisiana sight fishing is becoming very popular to score giant redfish. Redfish are members of the drum family. They hit hard and fight all the way to the boat. Regular bass tackle can be used for these hard fighting fish.
What makes Louisiana a spectacular place to sight fish is that Louisiana is home to the most coastal marshes. Louisiana makes up 40 percent of the country's coastal marshes. Most of these marshes are “chock a block” full of redfish. These marshes are very shallow and relatively clear making it a perfect place for one to experience true sight fishing. Here are some top notch places to try out.
Venice, Louisiana Fishing Charters
Otherwise known as “End of the World”. This place is fisherman's paradise, it is located on the mouth of the Mississippi River. From Venice you can access thousands of acres of this prized marsh. A guide is recommended if it is your first time here because the marsh can be very disorienting. You also may have to cross the river and it can be pretty hairy out there. Along with these beautiful marshes you are in the heart of Southeast Louisiana culture. You can expect to eat great food and meet wonderful people that will give you pointers on where to go.
Lake Charles, Louisiana Fishing Charters
Located in Southwest Louisiana is home to prime sight fishing opportunities. I put Lake Charles because you cannot narrow it down to one particular place in this region. There is very good success in Big Lake and the marshes around it. The shallow marshes towards the gulf yield prized redfish and also can catch some of the biggest trout in the state. Southwest Louisiana culture is also very great and will definitely catch tons of fish.
This is only to name a few of the best places to sight fish around Louisiana. Louisiana is endless with great fishing, especially sight fishing. It is not everyday you can witness a 30lb bull red devour your bait and watch it fight all the way to the boat.
